Summer vs. Fall Flowers: What’s Blooming Now for Seasonal Floral Arrangements
As the end of August is in sight and with a slight chill in the air, we find ourselves approaching arguably the most beautiful transition of the year. We slowly leave behind the golden summer glow and welcome the rich, earthy tones of fall—and with it, our flower arrangements begin to reflect the change in season.
At Boutique Blooms, we’re saying a little goodbye (for now) to some of summer’s most beloved blooms, and we’re excited to welcome in the bold, textured flowers of autumn.
The Summer Blooms We Are Saying Goodbye To
Peonies
Peonies just might be every woman's favorite flower of the summer - or ever. They are known for their full, romantic petals and dreamy fragrance. Their short season makes them especially cherished, and as the temperatures shift, they take their final bow until next year. We are sad to see them go, but looking forward to what's coming this autumn.
Chamomile
One of my personal flowers is chamomile. Delicate and daisy-like, chamomile brings a whimsical, wildflower touch to bouquets, making it feel truly like summer. The tiny white petals and soft yellow centers are perfect for a summer vibe, but sadly its season fades quickly when we see autumn coming.
Sunflowers
Although we do not use sunflowers in our arrangements at Boutique Blooms, we had to give these beautiful blooms a shout out. Bold, sunny, and full of joy—sunflowers are a summer staple. Some varieties linger into early fall, but the classic field-grown sunflowers are nearing their end as we move into cooler days.

Dahlias
Dahlias are absolute showstoppers in fall arrangements. These blooms always make me do a double take! With layers of intricate petals and stunning colors—from soft blush to deep burgundy—they add both structure and drama to autumn bouquets.
Mums
Everyone knows when fall comes, every grocery store is selling the potted mums to either be planted or hung in front of your house. Symbolizing abundance and joy, mums are a fall must-have. Available in a wide range of rich, saturated colors, they bring depth and fullness to every autumn floral arrangement.
