There's nothing quite like receiving a stunning floral arrangement — and nothing more disappointing than watching it fade too soon. At Boutique Blooms, we put enormous care into every stem we select and every arrangement we design. With a few simple habits, you can keep your blooms looking fresh and vibrant for days longer than you might expect.
Because our Bloom Bags and Bloom Boxes are designed differently, their care routines are a little different too. Here's what we recommend for each.
Caring for Your Bloom Bag
Our Bloom Bags are packed with fresh-cut seasonal stems, and a little prep goes a long way to extending their life.
Trim the Stems — Every Time
Before placing your flowers in a vase, cut at least 2–3 cm off the bottom of each stem at a 45-degree angle. This increases the surface area for water absorption and removes any dried or sealed ends. Repeat this every couple of days when you change the water.
Use Clean, Cool Water
Fresh, cool water is your flowers' best friend. Change the water every two days and rinse the vase thoroughly each time to prevent bacterial buildup that can clog stems.
Use the Flower Food Packet
Your Bloom Bag comes with a flower food packet — don't skip it! It contains a precise blend of sugar, acidifier, and biocide to nourish your blooms and keep the water clean. Follow the instructions on the packet for best results.
Keep Them Away from Heat, Drafts & Fruit
Avoid placing your arrangement near sunny windowsills, heating vents, or air conditioning units. Keep them away from fruit bowls too — ripening fruit releases ethylene gas, which accelerates wilting.
Caring for Your Bloom Box
Our Bloom Boxes are designed as a complete, styled arrangement — no trimming needed. Here's how to keep yours looking its best.
Add Fresh Water Daily
Gently top up the water in your Bloom Box each day to ensure the floral foam or vessel stays hydrated. Consistent moisture is key to keeping the blooms perky and fresh.
Mind the Placement
Where you display your Bloom Box makes a big difference. Choose a cool spot away from direct sunlight, heating vents, and drafts. Avoid placing it near ripening fruit, which releases ethylene gas that can shorten the life of your blooms. A cool, shaded surface is ideal.
